My First Par (3)!

Today I played golf for the second time (same Crossroads Par 3 course) and I got my first par!!! At the 9 hole I got right near the green on my first stroke, so I HAD to take that picture. And it became my par. Super exciting, and makes me want to play more and more. Looking into adding to my club set and finding the perfect golf ball to match my swing. Can't wait to get better, and can't believe I waited this long to get into golf!

Golf, finally!

Soooo, today I played my first game of golf. After years of the occasional driving range practice and owning a new set of Callaway clubs for no reason really, I finally got out there and did it! I've always had anxiety of being rushed and holding up the queue at a course, but in Bellevue at the par 3 course today that was not an issue at all.

I lost, but not by thaaat much. Mike and I played 9 holes and I got a 48, he got a 41. I'm so excited to play more! The weather is perfect and I've got plenty of time on my hands the next few weeks. Yay summer hobby!

Summer Hobby - Golf

A few weeks ago, Sunny took a road trip down to San Francisco and was kind enough to pick up my golf clubs! He also promised to teach me how to play golf, since he used to teach professionally and all. How awesome is that!

Today was the first lesson. After work, I headed over to Columbia Super Range and we worked on posture and swing. There are SO MANY things to remember! But I think I'm picking it up pretty quickly. I had an awesome time, but I wish the driving range wasn't so ghetto. Sean actaully told me that the range we were at is one of the nicest ones in the area, and Sunny later agreed. WOW. Seriously? It was only one level, the grass was all dried up, the railings were rusted, and the range smelled like hot frogs. I was not impressed, but I guess I've just been spoiled by the driving ranges in San Francisco.

Anyway, Matt is always telling me that in Seattle you have to have hobbies to enjoy the nice weather. I found mine! I'm hoping that with Sunny's help, this summer I'll be able to hit well enough to actually play a game on a course. If I keep at it, I'm sure I'll be able to do it. And inbetweens I'll start running - I can run around the beach I found last weekend! My new Brooks running shoes are absolutely wonderful, the treadmill is a totally different experience and I think I finally have enough support to start hitting the pavement.

This summer is going to be good times. :)

Feeding & Movie Frenzy

This weekend was pretty eventful. Thursday night I went to HH with Charles to celebrate my new job and catch up, and then went to Holy Cow with the guys. Needless to say, Friday night I was home recovering. I finished Weeds season 5, and it definitely did not disappoint. I also watched Invictus, and I was momentarily inspired by the power of rugby to unite a nation. Yeah, go rugby! Saturday night, I went to dinner with Julian at Santana Row and we got to check out the newly remodeled Straits! His parents joined us at Sino and we lost track of time, so I didn't make it to Pearl for Lily's birthday =(.

Sunday, I was back at the driving range - I did pretty well, but I think it's sad that I have still yet to play a game. As soon as my schedule settles down, lessons it is! I went to watch Despicable Me with Julian, and we ran into two of our guy friends who just came out of Twilight together. HOW CUTE!!! Afterwards, we ate at Red Crawfish (nom nom nom) and then watched Bounty Hunter at his place while he packed the rest of his stuff.

Monday I purposely did absolutely nothing. Yup, I've got to enjoy what remains of my mondays off. They will be gone soon! I watched Paul Blart Mall Cop, and then I realized that the movie I REALLY wanted to watch was Observe & Report. Damnit, I didn't realize there were two mall cop movies!

For lunch at work today, we ordered pastrami sandos from Deli Board. O, M, F, G. SO GOOD. And then after work, I went to the optometrist and got glasses for driving. I'm excited to pick them up next week =) I can be a four-eyes too! After the optomo, I went to Alex's house and played with his SUPER CUTE dog. He also gave me Sharks goodies HOW COOL IS HE!! I'm so excited for next season. We got a 10pak! WOOT! And we watched Inglorious Basterds, and his mom cooked dinner. OMG her food is always so good, I feel like a stuffed pig. NO, I AM a stuffed pig. Sigh.

Farewells, For Now.

Yesterday we had a barbie at Coyote Point for Menie, because she's moving away - I was just starting to get used to having her around again... and here she goes leaving all over. Well, we had lots of fun anyway. For the most part, everything went well.

The pineapple with brown sugar and cinnamon was sooo good. And I guess I never thought about it, but yesterday I learned that cinnamon is actually tree bark? Lots of good company, old friends and new, and delicious food. I got to use my activity mat and tanned while people played volleyball. I also made jello shots, and I'm pretty sure they were amazing - if nothing else, they were at the very least POTENT.

And then today I had brunch at Stacks with Julian. He is also leaving on Thursday to pursue his career. I'm so sad that he's moving away! We had a nice meal and then went to the driving range at Crystal Springs. It was a gorgeous day and there were animals out on the grass, so nice.

Afterward we hung out at his place for a bit, playing with the cats and chatting by the pool. I'm going to miss hanging out with him! This week will be sad, and I wish I could send other people away instead of them and keep my favorites around. But still, I'm excited for them both and wish them all of the best =)

Menie and I went for a late dinner with Ryan and Alan at Santa Ramen - I think this may be our last meal together for a while. And then we ran into some friends at Golden Island for dessert. Lots of funny moments throughout the night, those guys are hilarious. I'm sooo going to miss that crazy girl!

The B's: Baseball & Bo

Today I went to my first Giants game! Against SD, we lost by 1.

Baseball is ... different. Not fast-paced, at all. In fact it's rather slow and uneventful most times. Totally different from hockey. Perhaps it isn't my cup of tea? I was also feeling pretty shitty after work, so maybe that dampened my mood. I learned a lot though, about the game and the rules and such! And well, I'm glad I FINALLY experienced a Giants game! "*GASP* You've NEVER been to a Giants game?" - never have to hear that again.

And I want to take a moment and wish BO a very happy birthday! Without him I might never have known how great lower level Sharks seats are, or gone to my first GIANTS game! I might not even have ever discovered golf? Or live streaming for sports? Bo is so super cool, and he's also my tax agent (indicative of trust). He's cooler than Priscilla, and he's such an awesome friend. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BO! SHOUTOUTSHOUTOUTSHOUTOUT~~~

New Clubs, New Book, New Love Interest

So! I got my new clubs last week, but didn't have time to try them between working and being bedridden for a few days with some sort of cold. Today I got a chance to break them in at the range, and MY MY have they improved my accuracy! And consistency! I'm very happy, and I can't wait to play a game! =)

I've also started a new book: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson. There's a character, Annika, who has the same name as a character in the book I just finished about the dog with a human soul! Such a coincidence. Anyway, this one seems promising, I loves me some murder mystery.

And my new love interest, is me. I've decided to focus on myself - to get more reading done and maybe learn something new or start working out again. Definitely working on the golf game! I want to be passionate about something, for once in my life.

Funday Monday

I went to Union City today expecting to bring home a new toy. Unfortunately, we couldn't agree on a price for the condition of the bike. SUPER BUMMER!

But the rest of the day got better! We switched the battery out of J's bike and got it running again - Ducatis have this ridiculous battery-under-tank configuration that requires two people. When he didn't need my help anymore, I was practicing my golf swing on his lawn until I started taking out HUGE CHUNKS of grass LOL. I proceeded to steal lemons from his lemon tree, until I got jabbed by a thorn which made HIVE BUMPS on my arm!! Ah, the trouble I get into when left to my own devices...

We went to the driving range after, and I'm making GREAT progress with my swing! I can actually control the direction of the ball now and I'm getting better at gauging distance. The sound of the club hitting the ball CORRECTLY is like sweet sweet music to my ears. I'm VERY excited with this development.

GOLF!

Today V and I went to play golf with Bo! I never had the desire to play golf until after high school, and then no opportunities came along - until now! I actually really like golf, and I didn't have as much trouble swinging as my mom said I would. GOLF GLOVES ARE COOL!! I think I've found a new hobby. I might be a natural, but I'm worried that next time I go I'll find myself much more frustrated. I guess there's only one way to find out! I'm not so good, however, at putting. But it was tons of fun anyway.

We had a late lunch at Gogo Cafe and then went home. I caught the Warriors game, but kind of fell asleep during the 2nd quarter. Albert came over to exchange gifts! And it was a good game anyway, Randolph was on fire! I actually didn't get to finish because Bo and Charles showed up, and then we went to Yan's! Mary and Patrick have a nice setup, and the food was pretty good. I'd totally hang out there for HH, and I think they'll do well. I had such an eventful Monday!
